Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)

A Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) is an electric vehicle that exclusively relies on the chemical energy stored in rechargeable battery packs for power and does not use any other secondary propulsion source such as an internal combustion engine or hydrogen fuel cell. Instead of internal combustion engines, BEVs use electric motors and motor controllers for propulsion, deriving all their power from battery packs, eliminating the need for fuel tanks or fuel cells.

BEVs are available in a variety of forms, including motorcycles, bicycles, buses, trucks, and cars. In 2016, there were 210 million electric bikes used daily worldwide, and in September 2016, the cumulative global sales of light-duty pure electric vehicles passed one million units.
